The free plugin installs the same way as any other WordPress plugin, and requires WordPress 6.1 and PHP 8.0 or later. Pick whichever method fits your hosting: they all land you at the same place, with the setup wizard launching automatically on first activation. Pro installs on top of the free plugin (it requires the free plugin to be active) and adds a separate license activation step.
Three install methods
Pick whichever fits your workflow. All three install the same files; only the delivery differs.
Best for: most users — easiest path with automatic updates.
- In the admin, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for “Image SEO Optimizer”.
- Click Install Now on the listing by Infy.
- Click Activate when the install finishes.
The setup wizard opens automatically and walks you through connection, keys and preferences in four steps.
Best for: installing from a downloaded ZIP (e.g. a beta build or the Pro plugin).
- Download the plugin ZIP file.
- In the admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Click Choose File and select the ZIP.
- Click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
Identical to the WordPress.org install — the setup wizard launches automatically.
Best for: servers without admin file-upload (e.g. locked-down environments) or scripted deployments.
- Unzip the plugin locally.
- Upload the resulting
infy-ai-image-seo-optimizer/folder via FTP/SFTP intowp-content/plugins/. - In the admin, go to Plugins → Installed Plugins.
- Find Infy SEO – Image SEO Optimizer in the list and click Activate.
Identical to the other methods — the setup wizard launches on activation.
Activate Pro on top of free Pro
Pro is a separate plugin (infy-ai-image-seo-optimizer-pro) that loads on top of the free plugin. It cannot run standalone — it depends on the free plugin’s public API for everything from data access to the admin UI.
Pro requires the free plugin
If you activate Pro without the free plugin installed and active, an admin notice appears: Infy Image SEO Optimizer Pro requires the free Image SEO plugin to be installed and activated. No Pro features load until the free plugin is active. Install both, then activate the free plugin first.
Activation order
Install and activate the free plugin
Use any of the three install methods above. Walk through the setup wizard or skip it — its URL keeps working afterwards, so you can walk the steps again at any time.
Install the Pro plugin (ZIP upload)
Pro is not on WordPress.org. Download the ZIP from your InfyPress account, then upload via Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and click Activate.
Enter your Pro license key
After Pro activates, a license-required notice appears at the top of the dashboard. Click through to the License page and paste your key. Pro features load immediately once the license validates.
What happens on activation
Activating the plugin sets up everything in one pass. You don’t need to configure anything yourself — it’s all done in the background:
The setup wizard opens
The four-step setup wizard launches automatically on the next admin page you load, as long as the wizard has not been completed before. You can walk through it or skip it — see the Setup Wizard page for what each step asks and how to open it again later.
Safe defaults are saved
Sensible defaults are saved for optimization, prompts and supported file types. If you re-activate later, your existing settings are preserved — nothing gets overwritten.
Internal data storage is set up
The plugin creates the storage it needs for the redirects manager, optimization history and search-console data. This happens automatically and requires no action from you.
Background maintenance is scheduled
Routine tasks like cleaning up expired redirects and refreshing dashboard stats are scheduled to run quietly in the background, so the plugin keeps itself tidy without you having to think about it.
Your dashboard is ready
Initial stats are calculated in the background so the dashboard has data the first time you open it — no waiting on an empty screen.
Re-running the setup wizard
The wizard has no menu entry, so there is nothing to click once it is done. Its page stays reachable at wp-admin/admin.php?page=ai-image-seo-optimizer-wizard and renders even after completion. Only the automatic launch stops. Re-running keeps your saved API keys and scoring weights — a stored key shows as a masked placeholder and stays unless you type a new one. One exception: the language dropdown opens on your site locale, so finishing the preferences step again writes that locale over a custom language.
