AI Image SEO Optimizer can rename image files on disk to SEO-friendly names generated by AI. When a file is renamed, the plugin automatically creates 301 redirects and updates all references across your content.
How File Renaming Works
AI Generates Filename
When you optimize an image, the AI generates a descriptive, SEO-friendly filename based on the image content.
Physical File Rename
The plugin renames the actual file on disk, including all thumbnail sizes. The original file is preserved as a backup.
301 Redirects Created
Automatic 301 redirects are created from the old URL to the new URL, preserving SEO value.
Content References Updated
All references to the old filename in posts, pages, and page builder content are updated to the new URL.
Page Builder Support
The plugin detects and updates image references in these page builders:
- WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg)
- Elementor
- WPBakery Visual Composer
- Visual Composer
- Uncode
Managing Redirects
View and manage all 301 redirects at AI Image SEO → Redirects. You can see the old URL, new URL, redirect count, and manually delete redirects that are no longer needed.
CDN Cache
If you use a CDN (Cloudflare, BunnyCDN, etc.), purge the CDN cache after renaming files to ensure visitors see the new URLs.
